Slə́qsit Steven Stark is a proud member of Tsawwassen First Nation, an entrepreneur, community builder, father of four, and President and CEO of Tsawwassen Shuttles Inc. (TSI). Slə́qsit is Steven’s traditional Coast Salish name.
Steven’s journey has been shaped by resilience. As a young person, he experienced family instability, abuse, undiagnosed dyslexia and hearing loss, addiction, and homelessness. A family intervention, along with the guidance and support of his cousin, the late Chief Ken Baird, helped Steven enter community-centred rehabilitation and begin building a new path forward.
Drawing on his experience fishing with and for his community, Steven founded Tsawwassen Shuttles Inc. in 2011. The company initially provided marine services supporting environmental and fisheries research.
In 2015, Steven expanded TSI’s services with a single shuttle bus and one transportation contract. Guided by his belief that success can be learned and that strong relationships are essential, he steadily developed the company into a diverse transportation and construction services organization.
Today, TSI provides charter and shuttle bus transportation, marine charters, street sweeping, water truck services, towing, and other specialized services to clients and partners across British Columbia. Steven’s authentic and open-hearted approach to leadership helps build lasting relationships, while his focus on excellence, reliability, and service delivery sustains them.
As an employer of more than 50 people, Steven is committed to creating employment, mentorship, and economic opportunities for Indigenous people and the wider community. He contributes to several community organizations and boards, including the A Better Life Foundation, serves as President of the Salish Sea Indigenous Guardians, and is one of the founders of the Chenchenstway Gathering.
Through his business leadership, community involvement, and personal example, Steven demonstrates the power of resilience, meaningful relationships, and service. His life remains firmly grounded in helping others and contributing to the strength and well-being of his community.
