Matt Jamieson is a proud member of the Tuscarora Nation and a resident of Six Nations of the Grand River, Canada’s most populated First Nation.
Matt is the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation (SNGRDC) and was responsible for designing the corporation’s corporate structure, including its governance model and investment strategy.
Since 2015, SNGRDC has participated in numerous renewable energy and infrastructure developments with an aggregate total investment cost (TIC) of $ 3 B. Within these developments, Matt negotiated equity positions ranging from 10% to 50% and raised debt and equity financing, resulting in SNGRDC having more than $100M of assets under management. SNGRDC is now partnered with six publicly traded companies and several highly respected Canadian and US privately held corporations.

• Grand Renewable Wind: 149 MW wind farm, TIC of $592M
• Niagara Region Wind Farm: 230 MW wind farm, TIC of $980M
• Niagara Reinforcement Transmission line: 76 km transmission asset
Most recently, SNGRDC served as a co-developer, investor, and subcontractor for the Oneida Energy Storage project ($700M TIC), Canada’s first and largest energy storage project. In his capacity as CEO, Matt helped negotiate a 22-year bilateral contract with the Province of Ontario, secured project debt financing from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, and sourced a large equity investor for the project.
As of 2023, SNGRDC has generated $260M of direct economic impact for the Six Nations Community and in doing so has created employment for over 200 community members. In addition, Matt also negotiated two land lease arrangements with the Province of Ontario, which will generate $110M for the Six Nations community.
In 2017, the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business recognized SNGRDC as Development Corporation of the year; the organization has also been recognized as one of the Canada’s Best Managed companies from 2019 – 2023: In 2015, Matt was a Clean 50 and Clean 16 award recipient, and in 2021 received the Hedley Palmer award from the Association of Power Producers in Ontario.
Matt holds a Post-Bachelor’s in Management and an MBA from Athabasca University and is a ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program graduate. Matt shares his Indigenous perspective and business experience as an Executive-in-residence at the Rotman Business School and as an Executive fellow at the Ivey Energy Policy & Management Centre. In addition to various advisory roles, Matt serves as a board director for the Canada Renewable Energy Association, United College (Waterloo University), and 3DATX Corporation.
