Guy Freedman is a Principal ([Re]-Confederation) and Founder of the First Peoples Group (firstpeoplesgroup.com). From Flin Flon, Manitoba he descends from the historic Metis Nation with roots in Red River from 1812; his family names are Moran, Landry and Maskwa. His Great Grandfather Alexandre Landry Jr. was a Scrip Taker in the late 1880’s during the infamous North West Half-Breed Commission. Guy remains closely connected to his community and is a thought leader on contemporary Indigenous issues.
Guy is a former Senior Advisor (Reconciliation) for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) where he assisted in developing the conversation around reconciliation with Canadians. From 2016 to 2023, he was a member of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Standing Indigenous Advisory Committee.
He carries and honours his Ojibwe Spirit Names Kwingogwaági Pizhew (pronounced ‘gwingo waggey bee shoo’ meaning Wolverine Star Lynx) and is a member the Lynx Clan.
Guy is also a talented facilitator and moderator, trainer, keynote speaker and writer. His first book of poetry, Little Athapapuskow, (pronounced Atha Pappa Skow) A Métis Love Story, was published by Saskatchewan’s Gabriel Dumont Institute. In 2025, Guy received the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his work with the Metis Nation.
